Single Pane Storefront Style Glass

Most glass found in older style commercial and storefront applications will be 1/4″ in thickness and annealed glass. Glass that is within 2 feet of a door or less than 18″ off the ground will have to be a type of safety glass. The most common is to use tempered glass in these situations because the glass is stronger than annealed glass and can be cheaper depending on the order size. Some places might have laminated glass in place of tempered or a laminated and tempered combo.

How Long Does It Take?

Commercial glass replacements can be done on the same-day in some cases.

• Tempered 1-3 days for common situations, much longer for custom work, a few weeks up to 8 weeks.
• Laminated – Can be cut on-site in many situations so same-day replacement. For custom laminated pieces or combos much longer, 3-6 weeks.

The turnaround time for common tempered glass only takes 1-3 business days for most glass tempering plants. For really custom projects, custom cuts, holes, slots, edgework etc expect a much longer wait. But for stores that are just dealing with a broken window or door pane of glass you should be able to find a specialty glass contractor that specializes in that type of emergency service.

Insulated/Dual Pane Commercial Window and Door Glass

Dual-pane commercial glass replacement times are similar. One difference is getting a commercial insulated glass unit done in the same day from a reputable glass manufacturer will be very difficult. In many cases 10-14 business days will be common, in emergency situations sometimes a local manufacturer will do and 2-4 business days could be possible. A local manufacturer will still use the same high-quality glass as the big boys out of state, the problem will be the volume it moves will be smaller therefor costs will be higher on their products. This offsets when fast turnaround times are the most important thing.
